Are you one of the millions of Americans looking for a new job?
If so, you’re not alone.
But I will tell you if you do not have a strategic job searching plan, it will not happen, certainly not in the time frame you want.
The latest Harris Poll shows that more than 70% of Americans seek a new role.
While this may seem daunting, it’s important to remember that it’s always possible to start your job search!
Here are some tips to get you started:
1. Don’t wait for the perfect opportunity.
It’s a common misconception that there is a specific time of year when job hunting is most effective. However, the truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. The best time to search for a job depends on various factors, including your field, experience level, and the current job market. Ultimately, the best way to find a job is to start your search as soon as possible and to be flexible in your approach.
2. Use your network.
If you’re looking for a job, you can talk to your friends, family, and acquaintances about the roles you’re interested in. See if they know anyone who is hiring. They can put you in touch with someone who can give you more information about the role or help you get an interview.
3. Utilize job search engines and websites.
Several websites list job openings. You can also search specific company websites or LinkedIn to find roles matching your skills and experience. Look for company reviews on sites like Glassdoor, and read up on the job descriptions to make sure it’s a good fit for you.
4. Attend job fairs and networking events.
Job fairs offer job seekers a unique opportunity to meet with potential employers and learn about new job openings all in one place. According to a recent survey, nearly 60% of job seekers who attended a job fair said it helped land a job.
5. Stay positive!
The job search process can sometimes be frustrating, but it’s important to remember that every “no” brings you one step closer to a “yes.” According to the Association of Psychological Science, people who are rejected are more likely to persist in their pursuit of a goal. So, if you’ve been feeling down about your job search, take heart – each rejection is one step closer to finding the right job.
