One of our top cover letter tips is the cover letter is about your ability to solve the employer’s problem and nothing more.

What does this mean? Steer away from sharing your biography and only discuss your experience as it relates to addressing the specific skillsets mentioned in the job description. This will help you create a cover letter that someone will actually read by keeping it to 1/3 to ½ page maximum.

You’ll want to personalize the letter to the specific job and the specific company you’re applying to. To do this, in your elevator pitch, focus on identifying the top three skillsets the employer is looking for that match up with your experience, and explain how and where you got that skill.
